Sending money to Indonesia from Singapore involves more than finding a provider with the lowest advertised fee. The usual currency received is Indonesian rupiah (IDR). The sender pays in Singapore dollars (SGD). Then the actual cost will depend on the transfer fee, the exchange rate, the speed of delivery and the method of payout.

Sending money from Singapore to Indonesia? Check the final IDR amount you get in your bank account instead of just the headline fee. A provider that advertises “zero fees” may still offer less if its SGD to IDR exchange rate has a wider margin.

For example, a difference of 200 IDR per SGD translates to a 200,000 IDR difference on an SGD 1,000 transfer before fees. That is why the transfer fee can be as important as the exchange rate.

How do I send money from Singapore to Indonesia?

To send money from Singapore to Indonesia, choose a regulated transfer provider and enter the amount in SGD. Add the details of the Indonesian recipient and choose a payout method. Review the live amount in IDR before you pay. Depending on the provider, funds can be received in an Indonesian bank account, e-wallet or eligible cash pick-up location.

The basic process is :

  1. Sign up for an account and verify your identity.
  2. Choose Singapore as the sending country and Indonesia as the destination.
  3. Enter the amount in SGD.
  4. Add the recipient's legal name and payment details.
  5. Choose a payout option.
  6. Check the exchange rate, fees, delivery estimate and final IDR amount.
  7. Approve and fund the transaction.
  8. Follow the transfer until it gets to the recipient.

For example, Wise currently shows SGD to IDR transfers where the recipient gets IDR locally. Its Singapore-to-Indonesia service also allows bank-transfer funding and shows you the fee before you confirm.

What is the cheapest way to send money to Indonesia from Singapore?

No particular method is cheapest for every transaction. The cheapest option depends on the amount, how it’s funded, exchange rate, payout route and provider used. Compare total SGD paid vs final IDR received. Don't compare transfer fees.

A useful framework for comparison is:

Factor What to compare
Exchange rate SGD-to-IDR rate offered at checkout
Transfer fee Fixed or percentage-based charge
Funding cost Bank transfer, debit card or other payment method
Delivery Seconds, same day or several working days
Payout Bank account, wallet or cash
Receiving charges Any deduction by an intermediary or recipient bank
Limits Maximum amount per transaction or day

For example, Wise displays a live quote for SGD to IDR on its Singapore offering, stating that it prices based on the mid-market exchange rate. Its published example for SGD 1,000 shows costs that vary depending on whether the transfer is funded from a Wise account, bank transfer or debit card. These are live quotes, not universal prices, so you should always check the amount before sending.

The same principle applies to bank transfer. DBS Remit is now available with zero transfer fees to selected destinations, same-day processing if submitted before the relevant cut-off and locked-in rates. It also says that there may be an agent-bank fee in some cases.

Singapore to Indonesia money transfer methods

There are four main approaches: digital remittance services, bank transfers, e-wallet payments and cash-pickup services.

Digital remittance services

Online remittance companies are designed for people sending money to other countries. The sender usually completes the verification, funds the transfer and selects the Indonesian payout method for the recipient.

If you need speed and transparent pricing, these services can help. Some can be paid directly into Indonesian bank accounts, and some selected services also support wallets.

For example, Wise now allows you to transfer to Indonesian banks such as Bank Mandiri and BNI and shows you the exchange rate, fee and estimated delivery before you pay.

Pros

  • Simple online setup
  • Transparent quotations
  • Quick delivery on supported routes
  • Direct bank options

Cons

  • Price depends on funding method
  • Verification may be needed
  • Limits may apply

Bank transfers

A bank transfer can be convenient if the sender already has a bank account in Singapore and the receiver has an Indonesian bank account.

DBS Remit, for example, allows customers to send to eligible destinations through its banking platform. DBS said that selected IDR transfers to DBS Indonesia accounts can be tracked via its Remit Tracker.

This can be especially useful for recurring family payments or larger transactions. But before you decide, check how the bank’s FX rate compares with specialist remittance companies.

Sending to GoPay, OVO or DANA

E-wallet payouts can be convenient, especially if the recipient would like to receive the funds digitally rather than in a traditional bank account.

Supported wallets depend on the provider and type of transaction. Wise, for instance, currently offers a route for DANA transfers from Singapore.

Wallet payouts can also reduce friction where the recipient already uses a local wallet for businesses paying Indonesian gig workers, marketplace sellers or contractors.

Sending to an Indonesian bank account

If the recipient uses BCA, Mandiri, BNI or another Indonesian bank, then direct bank payout is usually the simplest structure.

Usually the sender needs:

  • Full legal name of recipient
  • Name of bank
  • Account number
  • Any other information required by the provider

For larger transactions, the provider may ask for information on the purpose and source of funds.

It doesn’t matter if the provider works with a particular bank. The question is whether the quoted SGD cost, after all charges, results in a competitive final IDR amount.

How to send money to a BCA or Mandiri account from Singapore

When you send money to a BCA or Mandiri account, you can choose bank transfer as your payout method and Indonesia as your destination. Enter the bank account of the receiver, check the IDR amount shown, and confirm the transaction.

The exact process will depend on the provider.

For example, Wise now has a dedicated route for Bank Mandiri transfers, at the current SGD to IDR pricing and fee to transfer.

Once approved, you can save recipient information for repeat transfers if the source allows it. Always check the account number before making a large payment.

Does the transfer deliver via BI-FAST or QRIS?

BI-FAST and QRIS are for different purposes.

BI-FAST is an Indonesian domestic payment infrastructure for fast account-to-account transfers. Cross-border players can link international transactions with local Indonesian payment rails.

QRIS Cross-Border is mostly for transactions at participating merchants, not regular household transfers. Transactions may be completed in real time, and Singapore is a participating partner of QRIS Cross-Border, Bank Indonesia said. NETS QR is the Singapore side QR standard.

This is an essential difference. The transaction flow of sending money to your family member’s bank account is different. PayNow to Indonesia QRIS transfer is suitable for qualified merchant-payment use cases.

Currently, the limit for QRIS Cross-Border transactions is Rp10 million for each transaction, according to Bank Indonesia.

How long does a Singapore-to-Indonesia transfer take?

A transfer from Singapore to Indonesia may take seconds; it may take the same day or several working days. Actual timing will depend on supplier, funding type, compliance checks, destination institute and payout train.

Wise says many transfers to Indonesia arrive in seconds, while DBS says qualifying DBS Remit transfers submitted before the appropriate business-day cut-off are transferred on the same day. DBS's typical Outward Telegraphic Transfer service takes two to four business days.

Compare the given delivery estimate from a service for urgent transfers, not a generic marketing statement about speed.

What fees and exchange rate apply to SGD to IDR?

Usually, the cost of transferring SGD to IDR will include the provider's fee and the difference in the exchange rate used for the transaction.

A simple way to assess a quote is:

Effective cost = SGD sent − value of IDR received at the reference exchange rate

You may also compare:

IDR received per SGD = Final IDR received ÷ Total SGD paid

The second figure is especially helpful when comparing two providers.

For instance:

  • Provider A: lower visible fee but weaker exchange rate
  • Provider B: higher visible fee but stronger exchange rate

Provider B can still provide more IDR to the recipient.

Exchange rates also differ throughout the day. Therefore, you should not think of an exchange rate you see on a general currency converter as the rate a provider will necessarily offer at checkout.

TransFi: Simplifying Singapore to Indonesia transfers

For corporations, the problem is much more complicated than making a single personal transfer.

They may need to collect money, convert currencies, make payments, help with local payment methods and comply with a lot of marketplaces. It takes operational and technological overhead to build each payment connection.

TransFi fixes this with a single cross-border payment network. Its Single API integrates global collections, payouts, cards and stablecoin rails into one integration. TransFi says their API covers over 100 countries, over 40 fiat currencies and over 250 payment methods.

TransFi refers to local payout infrastructure for the Asia Pacific-to-Indonesia corridor, such as Indonesian bank accounts via BI-FAST and supported e-wallets such as GoPay, OVO and DANA. It also offers explicit pricing, FX visibility and tracking of transactions.

This applies to platforms that pay Indonesian labour, marketplace merchants, contractors or business beneficiaries.

Besides rewards, the product ecosystem of TransFi is also wider. TransFi Checkout enables the acceptance of payments worldwide, while TransFi Ramp enables digital-asset on-ramp and off-ramp. Its API fuses fiat payment infrastructure with stablecoin rails, allowing enterprises to build different payment processes on a single integration without having to build a separate one for each use case.

What the practical benefit is for firms looking at Singapore-to-Indonesia transfers is less about a consumer-facing claim of “cheap transfer” and more about combining payment infrastructure, local payout mechanisms, and cross-border settlement together in one integration.

For the specific corridor, you can refer to Singapore to Indonesia transfers to see the flow. Equally significant is the payout system for businesses that are focused on receiving money in Indonesia.

TransFi also provides infrastructure for sending from Asia Pacific to Indonesia, covering multiple origin markets through a unified API. Understanding how payouts land in Indonesia is useful when choosing between bank and wallet-based delivery.

Documents needed to send money to Indonesia

Most licensed providers will need to authenticate who you are before they transmit money overseas. Depending on the transaction, the sender may need to:

  • Identification from government
  • Residential address
  • Information for recipient
  • Purpose of transfer
  • Source of funds for large transactions
  • Other documentation for business payments

What providers require varies, and the magnitude of the transaction also determines what is required. For bigger transactions, there can be additional compliance checks, and one should not expect the requirements for an SGD 500 transfer to be the same as a much larger transfer.

What are the limits on sending money to Indonesia?

Transfer limits depend on the provider, the payment method, the level of customer verification, and the purpose of the transaction.

There is no single Singapore-to-Indonesia limit that applies to all providers.

So, users should check four things before making a large transfer:

  1. Maximum amount per transaction
  2. Daily limit, or monthly limit
  3. Further KYC requirements
  4. Documents needed for source and purpose of funds

Currently, Bank Indonesia has set the limit for cross-border merchant payment via QRIS at Rp10 million per transaction. This is not to be confused with limits on remittance or bank transfer services.

Conclusion

If you are transferring money from Singapore to Indonesia, compare the complete transaction, not just the fee.

Last IDR amount: IDR 200,000,000.00. Then, check the exchange rate, transfer costs, speed of delivery, payout method, recipient bank charges and compliance requirements.

Digital remittance platforms and banking services offer convenient ways to send money to family and friends. QRIS Cross-Border offers a special channel for qualifying transactions for merchant payments. For organisations running numerous flows of payments, the API infrastructure helps simplify connection with local Indonesian rails.

Before confirming any Singapore to Indonesia transfer, get a live quote and compare how much the receiver will actually get. That one step is worth more than a “zero-fee” headline.

FAQs:

1. Can I send money directly to an Indonesian bank account from Singapore?

Yes. Also, there are currently several foreign transfer providers and banks that provide direct IDR payouts to Indonesian bank accounts. Suppliers are backing several different organisations. Many of the larger remittance services work with Indonesian banks, such as Bank Mandiri, BNI and others.

2. Can I send money to GoPay, OVO or DANA from Singapore?

Yes, if the provider you choose supports the wallet and transaction path. TransFi’s infrastructure powers GoPay, OVO and DANA and bank disbursements across Asia Pacific and Indonesia.

3. What is the best exchange rate for an SGD-to-IDR remittance?

There is no set 'optimal' rate as FX markets shift and providers quote different rates at different periods. Compare the live rate and final IDR payout when ready to submit.

4. Is QRIS the same as sending a remittance?

No. QRIS Cross-Border is mainly for qualifying merchant payments. This is another payment flow: a remittance from a bank or wallet to another person. Now, Singapore has become one of the QRIS Cross-Border partners of Bank Indonesia.

5. How long does it take to send money to Indonesia?

It may take a few seconds or a few business days. Traditional foreign bank transfers can take longer, whereas digital services can deliver in almost real time on supported routes. Before you pay, have a look at the provider's delivery estimate for the transaction now.
